In order to get your vehicle transported, you’ll need to team up with a Broker to find the best Carrier for the job. We call this the Client-Broker Alliance.

Through this back and forth exchange with a national network of Carriers competing for your business, your Yellowfin Broker will ensure that shipping your vehicle is easy and affordable.

How car shipping works

STEP 1

Free Consultation

Request a quote and a Designated Auto Shipping Advisor will be assigned to you. Your Advisor will do an assessment of the current market trends that could affect pricing and carrier availability. This assessment helps your Advisor better negotiate with Carriers on your behalf and will ensure you are informed of what to expect going forward.

STEP 2

Place An Order

Once you book Yellowfin as your Broker, our Dispatch Department will start working on your order. Your Advisor will inform you when Carriers express interest in shipping your vehicle. As these are merely offers, you are not obliged to accept any bid that does not meet your schedule or budget priorities.

STEP 3

Book Your Carrier

Once you accept an offer, a Shipping Agreement will be finalized and your spot reserved with the Carrier. All terms will be outlined in this document for your review and signature.

STEP 4

Confirm Pick-Up

A Dispatch Notice provides all contact information for your Carrier. It is recommended that you call your Carrier prior to the pickup date to confirm all arrangements directly with the Driver they’ve assigned to you. Your Yellowfin Advisor is available should you need any additional assistance.

STEP 5

Vehicle Transportation

The Carrier is required to keep you updated on the status of your shipment prior to pick-up and delivery. However, your Yellowfin Advisor remains available to you at all times to address any concerns or assist with status updates.

STEP 6

Delivery

The Carrier will do a final inspection of your vehicle and will document this in the Bill of Lading (BOL). Sign the BOL after you’ve personally confirmed the condition of the vehicle. Payment to the Carrier is made on delivery in cash, cashiers cheque or money order.

Open-Carriers

Open shipping services are in highest demand as it is the fastest to schedule and the most economical. Your vehicle is loaded onto an open trailer with roughly 10 other vehicles. These vehicles are tightly strapped in and secured. An Open-Trailer does not offer much protection from the elements.

Enclosed-Carriers

This offers a higher degree of security and protection for your vehicle as it is loaded with only a few other vehicles and is completely protected from the elements. Enclosed-Trailer shipments are charged at a premium rate and slightly more difficult to schedule.

Door-To-Door

Also known as house-to-house, this shipping service ensures your Carrier will transport your vehicle from and to any address you specify.

AUTO TRANSPORT

How much does car shipping cost?

Car shipping cost depends on a few factors

Special accommodation must be made for vehicles which are heavier, longer or taller than the average sedan. These vehicles will therefore be more expensive to ship.

Inoperable vehicles will require special equipment for loading purposes. It’s important that your inoperable vehicle can still roll, steer and brake in order for it to be loaded with a winch. These vehicles will cost more to ship.

Major towns and cities will have a lot more Carriers operating in the area. This results in lower costs than for more rural locations. Adding certain rural locations to a shipping route may require the Carrier to make a detour off its regular trucking lane. This additional time and fuel is added to your overall quote.

Shorter distances are more economical overall but are charged at a higher rate per mile. Longer distances are more expensive overall but are charged at a lower rate per mile.

When many vehicles wait for transportation on a route with limited Carriers being available, then prices for transportation start to increase due to the bidding wars that may occur between customers who want their vehicle loaded first as a priority shipment.

Shipping a vehicle during the winter months will be more expensive due to the adverse effects of snow and ice on many Trucking Lanes.

PRIOR TO TRANSPORT

Car shipping preparation guide

Document the condition of your vehicle. Be sure to inform the driver if it has any leaks or mechanical problems.

Gas tank can be filled up to 1/4 full. Top off all fluids in the vehicle.

Remove custom products and removable items (leave your spare tire & jack). Remove or deactivate Toll tags and Parking Passes.

Disable or leave instructions for any security systems installed in your vehicle.

Make sure your battery has a full charge. Tires to be fully inflated.

You can ship up to 100lbs of your personal belongings inside the trunk of the car. Make sure to receive pre-approval prior to pickup.

When I first started looking into shipping my vehicle I was blasted with various companies trying to get me to book with them. After a few quick searches I chose Yellowfin. Admittedly I had no idea what I was doing. But Yellowfin seemed to have the least amount of one star reviews. I was quoted $795 with only having to pay $95 upfront. My direct contact was Chuck. The day before they were supposed to pick up my vehicle, I received a call from one of their competitors who essentially began to yell at me the moment they learned I booked Yellowfin. After some back and forth, the competitor gave me something of a challenge. He told me to call Yellowfin back and ask anything basic questions such as if there would be a price increase and if they guaranteed that my vehicle would be picked up when they said because as the competitor said "I'm a dispatcher and I can guarantee there are no trucks leaving from ..... to Pennsylvania on Wednesday." Now I did not need to ask either of those questions because I already had and Chuck had guaranteed nothing would happen. But I was apprehensive because I did start doing digging and learned the difference between a brokerage and an actual driver, and I did have some concerns. Chuck addressed them all each time I called, only failing to pick up the phone once in the entire week of conversations. He then had the dispatcher call me to ease my fears. They confirmed my pick up as well as all the notes I had mentioned about said vehicle. Well the day of happens and I talk to the service company and they tell me that my vehicle would be picked up in by 6 that day even though I was told 2-4 pm by the dispatcher. I reached out to Chuck, a little rude on my part, and within minutes I received notification that the driver would arrive in an hour. Mind you, I am in Pennsylvania and the vehicle was many states away. The driver called me, and didn't know any of the notes I had put in about the vehicle, and barely spoke enough English for me to explain the situation to him. He couldn't find the key and then even hung up on me. I called him, the service, and the dispatcher back but I got no response. I called Chuck, who immediately answered and I explained everything. He managed to get everything fixed and my car shipped. That brings me to today. Driver has me meet him in a different location which was fine. But then demanded cash or Zelle, neither of which could be done as I was told my card was ok for payment. Driver started making phone calls but got no where but I called Chuck. Within minutes suddenly the driver could then take Cash App even though he claimed just minutes before he could not. Then he charged me another $50 on top of the already agreed upon price. I paid it because I needed my vehicle more than the 50. Afterwards I called Chuck and explained and he said that he would take care of any discrepancy in price and would refund me. Despite me being irate at times, Chuck did his job. He was professional and got the job done. Most of the problems lie on the driver. Chuck even came through on his promise to refund me when the carrier overcharged me. Thank you Chuck and Yellowfin.

I have used yellowfin logistics to transport my hyundai sonata from Fremont,CA to Leander,TX.

Heard about them from my friend. I have got around 12-15 quotes. Few quoted around 550-800 who are obviously scammers. Goliath, deakt, JP auto transport etc quoted me around $1400-$1500. I got the car transported for $1100 through yellowfin.

The reason I went with yellowfin is because the agent mentioned they have a load that is going through my route and the pickup and drop-off dates are fixed unlike others who will start looking for carriers after you sign the agreement.

Timeline:

Pickup- Oct 28 evening around 4:30 pm
Drop off- Oct 30 night around 7:30pm

Try to look at yelp reviews as well. Also any Pickup or drop-off is hit and miss, no company can 100% guarantee you the rate and pick up times unless you are really close to the pick up date.

Yellowfin is an agent and not a carrier themselves, they inturn hired the carrier "safe auto transport ". The driver didn't really care how much weight I put in the car. Overall, I had a wonderful experience working with yellowfin.
